SM Foundation

We are a non-profit educational entity working for the improvement of education and culture in the countries where we are present: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico, Peru, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico.

The SM Foundation was created in 1977 in Spain with the objective of allocating the economic profits obtained by the SM company to improve the quality of education. In Puerto Rico, since 2004, we have developed socio-educational initiatives and programs for children, youth, and adults in highly vulnerable sectors, based on criteria of equity, closeness, and quality.

We work to promote reading and writing in schools, study centers, children's homes, libraries, and communities. We support teaching work through training workshops, research, and international and national seminars. We disseminate the work of national authors, fostering encounters of growth and learning around reading between them and the student body.

For the past 10 years, we have offered a Reading Promoters Course, a completely free theoretical-practical training for participants, aimed at contributing to the training of adults (teachers, librarians, educational and community leaders, university students, cultural managers, writers, workshop leaders, educational professionals, mothers and fathers, general public) as motivating agents for reading in their particular environments.

Among the communities and organizations with which we collaborate are: Villas del Sol and Centro ACUTAS in Toa Baja, Centro Educativo Joaquina de Vedruna in Río Piedras, Centro Inés in San Juan, Proyecto Escuela Nacer in Bayamón, Centro de Acogida y Sostén Agustino (CASA) in Aguas Buenas, Casa Educativa in Cantera, United Way of Puerto Rico, and countless homes, tutoring centers, and public and private schools in Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico en mi corazón

Puerto Rico en mi Corazón is the name of a collection of short stories by Puerto Rican authors aimed at motivating a love for reading in children. These narratives focus their attention on connecting children with the space where they live, Puerto Rico, and the importance of caring for the nature, flora, and fauna that surround us.
