The Start
Stuart Morrison graduated from the University of Stirling, Scotland in 1997 and it wasn’t long before his determination to work in motorsport was rewarded as he was appointed Press and PR Officer for the inaugural Formula Palmer Audi Championship. Justin Wilson won the 1998 FPA title and it wasn’t the last time Morrison would get to work with the talented Englishman.
Having helped establish the FPA series with the industry press and delivered widespread media for all its competitors, Morrison graduated up to the International F3000 Championship in 1999 working as Press Officer for Edenbridge Racing – winners of the 1995 British F3 Championship.
Onwards and Upwards
Following the mid-season sale of the team to future Minardi Formula One Team Principal Paul Stoddart, Morrison was snapped up by London-based CSS Stellar, recently merged from CSS Promotions and Stellar Management, Europe’s largest independently owned sports and entertainment marketing and management agency.
Within the agency Morrison worked on several key PR accounts including Mobil Oil’s sponsorship of the British Rally Championship and Lola Cars International. Additionally his work included dealings with many of the high profile drivers managed by the group including Dario Franchitti, Allan McNish and Richard Burns.
Promoted to CSS Stellar’s client management team in 2001, a spell in North America saw Morrison hit the ground running working with the likes of Franchitti, Oriol Servia and Dan Wheldon in Champ Car and Indy Lights. At the same time he was engaged in raising the profile of Scotland’s Ryan Dalziel – competing in British F3 at the time.
Going it Alone
2003 saw Morrison take the plunge and go it alone and become self-employed. Forming Rage PR Ltd to offer bespoke PR services within the motorsport industry, he soon found himself hooking up with some familiar faces. Having earlier worked with Jonathan Palmer and Justin Wilson, Morrison was retained to manage Wilson’s PR as he launched his unique ‘Invest in Wilson’ share scheme to finance his ride in Formula One in 2003 with Minardi. Additionally Palmer hired Morrison to return to manage the PR for the Formula Palmer Audi Championship that season.
A continued association with his previous employer, CSS Stellar, also followed as Morrison was retained to manage web projects and ghost-write features on behalf of Allan McNish, Renault F1’s test driver at the time, and 2001 World Rally Champion Richard Burns.
Canada – A New Challenge
Relocating to Montreal, Canada in January 2004 Rage PR Ltd became Stuart Morrison Public Relations. While the trans-Atlantic move meant a fresh start it was again a familiar face that kicked things off as Morrison reunited with fellow-Scot Ryan Dalziel, handling his PR in the 2004 Toyota Atlantic Championship.
Since then Morrison has gone on to manage PR for a host of emerging talent including Canada’s Sean McIntosh and James Hinchcliffe and American racers Carl Skerlong and Liam Kenney.
Morrison has complimented his work with drivers by looking after the PR interests for several teams, notably Pacific Coast Motorsports’ sports car campaigns in the American Le Mans Series and Grand-American Rolex Sports Car Series. Other activities have included managing PR for the Formula TR Pro Series and a move from four-wheel competition to two with a spell working for KTM Canada’s factory team competing in the Canadian Motocross Championship.
Merging his native roots and adopted homeland, Morrison has also managed PR for both A1 Team Canada and A1 Team Great Britain in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport, working with established talents such as Patrick Carpentier and Robbie Kerr alongside next generation stars including Canada’s Robert Wickens and Great Britain’s Oliver Jarvis.
